University of Sto Tomas (Manila)

The oldest University in Asia is situated in the heart of Manila. Established by the Dominican Order in 1611, UST was transferred to its current location from Intramuros. A grand Stone Archway stands at the entrance of the university and is called the Arch of the Centuries. It was taken apart and rebuilt after World War II.

A grand Stone Archway stands at the entrance of the university and is called the Arch of the Centuries. It was taken apart and rebuilt after World War II. Surrounding the University are pretty well known eateries that are student friendly in terms of price. Make sure to swing by SR. Thai, Almers and Dapitan Street for their gastronomic delights.

During the rainy season the university finds most of the surrounding streets submerged in knee high floods but no need to worry. You’ll be well taken care of by the administration who are known to literally ferry food to stranded students inside the buildings. Lomographers need not stray away from the school grounds for a nice lomowalk.

The university is peppered with fascinating sites itchy trigger fingers can shoot like century old fixtures, a museum, a tree laced walkway leading up to the Main Building, which looks more like a church than anything else. Currently the University is in the throes of preparation for its Quadri-Centennial Celebration for 2011.

I love love love Almers (wow gravy!) hehe.
and about the Archway, I heard it was literally transferred from Intramuros to where it is now. By literal I mean, people carried it. I don't believe it but I keep on imagining it. hehe
