Amsterdam Street-Markets

One of the most interesting shopping possibilities in Amsterdam is the several street-markets which can be found all over the city. The most famous one is maybe the Waterlooplein –market. There you can buy second-hand clothing but also new clothes, dvds, cds, rummage, and so on. It has its own metro-station and it is open from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Other interesting markets are the roofed antiques market De Looier where you can find antiques, furniture, jewelery, cutlery and hotchpotch, situated in the Elandsgracht 109 (open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am- 5 pm) and the Dappermarket (Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm) in the Dapperstraat, which is the cheapest market all over the city with clothes, drugstore articles and food.

The most famous market for tourists in Amsterdam is the flower market. It is maybe the sole market drifting on water all over the world. Specialties there are flowers, seeds, bulbs and rare plants like the black tulip. You can find it at Singel between Rokin and Leidsestraat and it is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm.

For my photo documentation I chose the Albert-Cuyp-Market because it is the biggest and most frequented market in Amsterdam. Specialties of this market are several kinds of spices, herbs and fresh food like fish and cheese. But there is also the possibility to find clothes, shoes, wigs, flowers, fashion articles, bike repair shops and so on. It was really great just to watch all the people and to feel the flair of this market. I was glad to have my Lc-A with me to take some snapshots. The Albert-Cuyp-Market is open from Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays form 9 am to 6 pm. It is situated in Albert-Cuypstraat/Ferdinand Bolstraat near the Heineckenplein.

When you have enough of walking along the almost never-ending market stands you can sit down in a nice street café and enjoy the hustle and bustle around you.
