The Cherry Blossom Festival (Washington D.C.)
written by vtayeh on July 31st, 2008 , 4 comments (2 votes)

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a two week event in the spring that celebrates the gift of Japanese Cherry Trees to the United States. The Cherry Blossoms are planted in an area that stretches from the Washington Monument, to the Jefferson Memorial, and to the Tidal Basin. There’s even a small stone Japanese Pagoda at the Tidal Basin.
It’s such a beautiful sight in the spring when over 3,000 Cherry Trees begin to bloom.

To plan your visit, there are two websites I recommend visiting first. #1 http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org – here you can find information about the events scheduled during the festival such as sushi/sake celebration, bike tours, art exhibits, parades, etc. You can also find visitor information such as parking info, shuttle stops, directions, etc.

The second website is
http://www.nps.gov/nama/planyourvisit/national-cherry-blossom-page.htm – this website has the most detailed maps of the park, colored maps of where all the trees are located and a legend of what kind of Cherry Blossom Trees are available. Just click on the link “Check out our maps of the Cherry Blossom Trees Here.”

So the next time you plan your visit to Washington D.C., come in the spring time to make sure you don’t miss the beautiful blossoms.

Thanks! By the way, I made a mistake typing the first website, it should end with .org instead of .com
