Liškiava Monastery Complex

Never stop getting excited hearing stories about superb locations in unknown places. I did understand that after visiting some small towns around my home, that I did not know they exist. For example, this Liškiava town is one of my pearls right now – I would advice everyone to visit it. It is a small village in south of Lithuania, but it’s not the village itself.
There is a huge hill, with steps right from the down of the hill to the monastery on the top. The monastery is superb, retouched by reconstruction professionals, with 7 rococo style sanctuaries (one of the most beautiful in the whole Lithuania). The area is superb, with a lot of park-style monuments, benches for resting, a huge church and so on. You can even rent the building next to it, and feel like a duke of old times…
Speaking about the dukes, there is a castle-hill right straight ahead from the hill of monastery. There are still some ruins of an old castle, that was very strong during the crusaders’ attacks, but after defeating them Lithuanians did not rebuild the broken castle near the river as it was a defensive one and after the winning the war it stopped playing any role. But… the legend says, there is a long corridor down the castle, that leads to the gold-plated walls and rooms, but scientists never confirmed if it really existed. Well, maybe you can?
