Abandoned French Railways Repair Shops
written by azurblue on July 28th, 2008 (0 votes)

In Arles, there is a wonderful place you can visit only in summertime : It’s the ancient repair shop of the French railway (SNCF). This place is abandoned since 1984, except in summer, when the R.I.P.(Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie) take place here : half of the photo exhibitions takes place in the enormous area (14 hectares).

But times are changing ! The shops will be renovated! The city signed with the world famous architect Franck Gehry! The patron of Art of the Lumas society gives the money for the superb future complex : university, photography school, exhibitions halls, etc. What a superb opportunity for the city and the art festival!
