Kaltanėnai Village
written by jogintas on July 25th, 2008 (1 vote)

This is another tiny village of Lithuania, but again – with at least 4 interesting things to mention. First of all, the name is taken after the lake, which is situated in village. The second interesting thing to know – this is the place, where all main roads of the national park meet, that is why this little tiny village looks shiny and has got even hotels to offer something for tourists.

What’s more, this village is the best place to start your river-journey with the boat or canoe. And of course, the last but not the least – the outrageous church, that is extremely huge for this type of small village. It even had a monastery in history, and the last thing I want you to tell is… well, this is the only street of that type in the whole Lithuania – the street goes just between the lake and the river and it ends without any crossroads into a huge area, something like the square. Do not know why, but… somehow it is very very strange :)
