Wrigley Field (Chicago, Illinois)

I don’t really remember the exact moment in time that I became a Cubs fan. I think it was when I was in middle school in my hometown in Utah. I would come home from school, turn on the television looking for something to watch. Cable television was a bit of a rarity at this time, so there was a lot to choose from.

I remember there were always a lot of baseball games on a couple of those channels. One channel always seemed to show games during the day. It was WGN and the team was the Chicago Cubs.

Utah did not then nor do they now have a professional baseball team. But watching those afternoon games on television were a great escape for me. Wrigley Field looked like a magical place. I had never seen people scramble on a city street for a home run. Or hear an entire crowd sing in unison with announcer Harry Carey as he sang the seventh inning stretch.

I attended my first Cubs game at Wrigley Field ten to eleven years later with my future wife wife who just so happened to grow up a Cubs fan in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. How we met is another long story. I live a lot closer now to Chicago now and I manage to attend a couple of games each year. I find myself still enamored with the place and can’t help but bring at least two cameras to the games usually a digital camera and a film camera.

There is something special about shooting film at Wrigley. It just feels right.
