Casino of Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo has an international image of luxury, glamour and beautiful prestigious cars. The Casino of Monte Carlo is the main place were you can have a view of all these “clichés” who are more than that because they’re also the reality of this place (shown for example in the 1995 James Bond movie “Goldeneye”)!

All began in the mid-19th century when the prince of Monaco Charles III wanted to attract to his micro-state the richest people of the world and decided to built a Casino on the hill of Monte Carlo. He asked the architect Francois Blanc to build the most beautiful casino ever made and 1865 it was done: a very prestigious and modern building (for these times) with an impressive parc and garden, along with a Hotel (Hotel de Paris) to have the richest people of earth as close a s possible of the casino. And the prince was right in his idea, the fortune of Monaco began with the opening of the Casino and is still attracting today amongst the richest people of the planet.

Today, the Casino is open to everyone who wants to lose his money in different games: you must pay an entry fee of 10€ and the minimum play at the roulette tables or the game machines are of 5€. I spent a (short) afternoon there to see a bit what this kind of place looks like, and like everyone, hoping to win a bit… But I didn’t… I wanted to take some shots from the inside, but unfortunately, all cameras are strictly prohibited inside the casino. But outside, you can shoot and have a good idea of what kind of people are playing inside: look at all the prestigious cars parked in front of the building – Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, etc. if you don’t have one of these, no chance to park there!

Anyway, it was fun to have a look at this special world, and it’s somehow special to see the huge amount of tourists outside looking for the luxury in front of them without being able to touch it.
