Luang Prabang is a small town at the River Mekong in North of Laos. Among the Laos mountains this little unique town hosts about 30000 inhabitants and because of its state of being UNESCO world heritage you`ll get the feeling there are twenty times more tourists. The state of World heritage was given to Luang Prabang because of its mass of Buddhist temples and the colonial architecture the French left there in 1995. But architecture is not the only left over, you`ll get there really fresh made, superb tasting chicken baguette right at the market.
You`ve got to get up before sunrise to see the round about 800 Buddhist monks which are walking through town collecting alms from the urban population. This is a really sweeping. After that you`ve got to go up the stairs on Mount Phou Si (no, not what you`re thinking of), from there you`ll have a wonderful sight all over the town, hills and temples surrounding this small mountain. Back downstairs enjoy your day walking down the streets and have a look into all these unique temples kept alive by the monks. Have a stop at the King`s palace and learn more about the history of Laos and especially about Luang Prabang. You`re hungry? Stop over at the small street-cook shop and choose your favorite Asian food. This pause will give you strength to have a look on the local market where you`ll get everything you need for your stay. After checking your e-mail account in one of the internet cafes dusk is coming and you are hungry again. Go down to River Mekong where you`ll find small restaurants with excellent Laotic cuisine.
Sounds great? It is, but don`t forget to bring enough money, you`ve got to pay for everything, even for climbing up the hill.
