Architecture in Stuttgart: Weißenhofsiedlung

Thrills up and down my spine. This was what I experimented when I was walking across the streets of Weißenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart. Directed by Mies van der Rohe, 17 architects created a neighborhood in 1927 just to show what the “New Architecture” would be. There you can see from a detached house to an apartment block.
I was delighted with Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud houses, and fascinated by the apartment block by Mies. The IIWW and the pass of time has made some changes on the original neighborhood. Houses by Walter Gropius, for example, were destroyed during the war, but now the existing buildings seem extracted from a modern architecture book. The restoration of the houses has been excellent, and the information signs on every house are exquisite.
Don’t miss visiting the museum at the Corbusier house (http://www.weissenhofmuseum.de) where apart from experimenting the house itself, you can buy related books and memorabilia at it small shop.
