A catastrophic fire burned almost 60% of the forest in 1989. Since then, it became a protected site : the access is forbidden to the public by strong wind, and from the 1st of July to the second week-end of September, each year.

Mont Sainte Victoire is a very popular place for walking, and even climbing and paragliding. It is also very famous because it has been painted by Paul Cézanne in his latest years.
