It is unfair, that such a big and great museum is known just like a “some art place with a nude guy outside”. Anyway, it is true – the statue of the nude man is still near the front door and is often more popular than the gallery itself.
During Christmas, this statue gets donation from the people of the town – they do dress him that he would not get sick, when it’s snowing outside. It’s funny, and is a good think to shoot with your lomo cameras. Anyway, the museum itself is one of the biggest in Lithuania, with a huge collection of paintings. Time after time, the first floor is occupied with different exhibitions, and the entrance fee is just funny – about 1 Euro per person. During weekends, you can watch art-movies in the cinema inside the gallery for free (do not remember if there were any movies with tickets).
The gallery is situated in the heart of Kaunas, just in the beginning of Freedom Avenue – the main street of Kaunas New Town. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday 11.00-17.00, so it is very easy to get the chance to look at the museum’s collection: it consists the M. K. State Art Museum’s most valuable collections of foreign art. There you can find even ancient Egypt art exhibitions, so if you’re near Kaunas, come here and take a short visit to this museum. By the way, I do not know if it is allowed to make photographs inside of the museum, but I couldn’t resist of doing some… Yes, I’m a bad man.
