Wind Rivers

The Wind River Wilderness area jumps out at you as you drive across the somewhat desolate state of Wyoming. Don’t get me wrong I love Wyoming, you just have to know where to go. The Wind Rivers is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

There are hundreds of lakes and drainage and granite peaks reaching over 14000 feet. The peaks have sheer cliffs that drop straight into lakes edges, and offer countless waterfalls. The fishing in the area is really quite good as well. Depending on the lake or river the area offers a large variety of trout and even salmon, at least according to the guide book I went in with.

With dozens of different entrances into the area one would need an entire summer, or more, to explore the region. There are thousands of miles of hiking trails, and horse trails if that’s your thing. The weather can be beautiful and the weather can be very harsh so be cautious, it’s definitely rugged.
