Wesak Day Festival. If you are looking for a festive holiday with your Lomo cameras, Thai Buddhist Wat Chetawan Temple is the right place that you have to visit. Wat Chetawan is located in Petaling Jaya, a satellite city in the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan. What is so wonderful about it? Wat Chetawan is one of the most beautiful temples in Malaysia. I last visited this place during the Buddhist largest festive celebration day named Wesak Day.
The celebration takes place every year in May (depends on Buddha’s calendar) and is celebrated with praying, chanting, offering and giving alms. According to the Buddhist, Wesak Day is very important to Buddhism because it is the day to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha. All believers are burning joss sticks, light lotus-shaped candles and oil lamps and also ring the bells. Of course, everyone is welcome to join the crowds! Don’t forget to take off your shoes in the certain compounds of the temple. The floor is totally heated by the hot sun.
This is how they show a respect to Buddha and the culture. Feeling hot? Thirsty and sweating everywhere? No worries! A lot of stalls are selling flowers, food and cool drinks outside the temple. Make sure you get back into the temple and continue shooting the atmosphere, the traditional designed temples and the lifestyle. Sure you won’t regret after that few hours. Wat Chetawan is just 20 minutes away from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. You can get into this place very easy by taking transit LRT, public bus or taxi.
