Viaduct of Millau

The Viaduct of Millau on the A75 highway (from Montpellier to Clermont Ferrand) is one of the latest important architectural achievements in France. It's just above the valley of the river Tarn, near of Millau (department of Aveyron) and is 245 meters high in the middle.

The Viaduct of Millau on the A75 highway (from Montpellier to Clermont Ferrand) is one of the latest important architectural achievements in France. It’s just above the valley of the river Tarn, near of Millau (department of Aveyron) and is 245 meters high in the middle.

The famous architect Norman Foster designed this monument 1996, and the work began 2001 until 2004. It’s a very impressing place, the landscape with the city of Millau is amazing and the monumental bridge imposes his white and modern architecture over a huge valley!!! There’s a special parking (after the viaduct if you’re coming from Montpellier, before it if you’re coming from Clermont Ferrand) where you can have an overall view and take pictures.

A lot of tourists are there in the summer, sometimes coming especially from far places only to see this construction! I often take this highway to go to the old family house we got in the countryside of the “Massif Central” and never stopped before last summer, I only saw it on the road itself (but it’s very impressing too). I decided to stop and a great crowd of tourists was there! After a little 5-10 min walk I arrived to a little hill where you got the best point of view of this monument. Very great moment, I shoot lots of pics with Holga and Fisheye :)) Just have a look at the pics and for more information go to http://www.viaducdemillau.com/accueil.php :)
