The Belgian waffle

When you think of Belgium, you think of chocolate, frites and brussel sprouts BUT don’t forget the yummy waffles (or gauffe as they call it in French). I’ve been living in Brussels for over 4 years now and still can’t get enough of it! I especially crave it when I’m out shopping or running errands as they have very convenient stalls and booths located in the metro stations and on the high street.
When in Belgium, you can find them virtually everywhere. There are many different varieties and toppings such as chocolate, whipped cream and fruits but my favourite is the plain and simple Liège waffle. Cooked and heated right before your eyes, the mouth watering aroma that engulfs you as you pass by one of their shops will have you digging deep into your pockets for loose change (they cost between 1,40-2,50euros each). A word of warning though…a moment on the lips and lifetime on the hips. I can testify to that but it still doesn’t stop me ;) http://www.belgaufra.com/uk.php?func=historique
