The first impression when you are in Naples is ‘dirt’, ‘chaos’, ‘disorder’. As you get used to it, you start enjoying the city. If you are brave enough to drive, you will probably notice that the traffic chaos is in fact a super-efficient way of moving along the city. You do not have to panic when are completely surrounded by Vespas or when in a two lane street there are three rows of car (or even more!).
The city is full of street markets, where you can enjoy the napolitan character. Fruit, vegetables, fish, sea food, clothes, shoes, accessories… everything is sold on the street! Naples is also famous for the pizza. In fact, they invented the Margherita Pizza, so you can eat just pizza in lots of small restaurants.
Naples is the capital of the Campania Region, so if you want to know its meaning, just climb the mount Vesuvius and you will see the big metropolitan area just at your feet! And remember, on AD 79, the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius buried the cities of Herculaneum and Pompeij, a must-see if you spend some days in Naples.
To reach Naples you can fly to Capodichino, the napolitan airport, or take the train from Rome, as it is about 200 km south from Rome.
