It was Good Friday when I first saw this marketplace. It is summer, and it is extra hot and humid. Umbrellas are everywhere. People came in droves to visit the miraculous church of St. Sepulcro. The streets leading to the church were buzzing with all the activity - quite the opposite inside the church.

Street hawker food was everywhere! Native Filipino homemade coconut rice cakes with sprinkled with caramelized coconut on top, broiled milkfish, barbecued chicken gut and feet, congee, noodles, vegetarian burgers and pizza – take the pick and you can have your fill. There are live birds and flowers, all kinds of garments for young and old, herbal medicines, puppets and blow up toys for the beach, and of course, the Filipino staple – the proverbial Videoke (Karaoke with video). Visiting this marketplace is not for the faint of heart, or for the impatient. Make sure to drink lots of water. Be ready to haggle for a lower price, or play hard to get, you might end up getting the best bargain in town!
