La Recoleta Cemetery

If you think Hollywood is ‘THE’ place for hot celebrities in America, then let’s meet the other side of the “IN” place for death in Argentina. What I mean by DEATH is not to die on the spot or something but it’s the place for the eternal rest.

This is where the rich and famous and the powerful of Argentina sleep forever. Well I’m sorry even if you want a little piece of that space to rest next to EVA PERON or the boxing great ANGEL FIRPOSORRY, it’s already fully booked no more new tenants unless your great family has bought you a slot in there….
I actually read it on my guide book but didn’t really spark my mind of going there until a group of my friends said there are going there just to visit the one and only famous person they knew – EVITA.

The image of the cemetery was great and grand I would say for mortal people like us having flat, semi-detached, terrace houses, bungalows. Some tombs were even identical to the favorite jewel-store of mine on Rodeo Drive with the exquisite marble glass, sculptures, family logos and other blah-blah-blah.

And the funny thing is what we all realized – there are a lot of fat furry cats around and you don’t smell or even step on their droppings…I wonder who feeds and cleans them after the work… The first day we went there it was a bit chilly and gloomy – perfect for some goose-bump stories but not good for doing Lomos for I decided to return to the cemetery the next day alone when it was sunny and chilly – everything was perfect for Lomos, it wasn’t that eerie actually and its free!!!

Open 7 days a week from 7am to 6pm.
By the way, when I got back and told my best pal about La Recoleta he became so envious because I went there. He had seen the documentary on Discovery and was amazed by it…he asked me if I saw lots of cats there and he said some said the cats have supernatural powers that protect the dead in the cemetery from bad spirits…
