Klaipeda is the third largest city of Lithuania. It is situated in the Western part of the Lithuania. It is an ice-free port with favorable geographical position on the coast of the Baltic Sea and Kursiu Lagoon, within close distance to other Baltic Sea ports like Kaliningrad (in Russia) and Riga (in Latvia).
As Lithuania’s only seaport, it has ferry terminal connections to the countries that were noted earlier and to the Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. By the way, walking down the streets you can find out that some of its older buildings have picturesque half-timbered construction, similar to what you can find in Germany, England, and Denmark. So Klaipeda has a lot of common with Western Europe.
Klaipeda old town comparing to Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania, is huge. As the streets are small, usually only for one car to drive through, they look really nice. Sea Fiesta is a festival which takes place in Klaipeda every year in July. It’s one of the biggest festivals in Lithuania and usually it attracts a lot of people from other Lithuanian cities and even guests from countries like Latvia, Russia or Germany. And don’t buy a map, because in Klaipeda there are a lot of stands on which are shown where you are, where to go and what to see.
