Desert museum

The desert museum is similar to a zoo, but a bit different. Everything that they have on display is from the desert, and is from the nearby vicinity.
This allows over 90% of the museum to be outdoors.
The areas where they keep the larger more dangerous animals resembles a typical zoo, where as the trails on the outskirts of the park contain more free range type environments. The javelinas area is about a quarter mile trail that is fenced, but the fence is well hidden, where the javelinas are free to roam. In many cases the park attendees miss the chance to see these creatures as they like to nap in hidden shady areas, but for those that do get a viewing, makes the experience all the more satisfying.
As the park is outdoors, summer is the exact wrong time for a visit. As temperatures reach over 110 degrees Fahrenheit, one would rather die than spend the day outside. Spring and Fall are ideal as the weather in Tucson is at its best. Plan a whole day in the park if you want to see everything, and plan on plenty of walking. Of all the zoos and animal parks I’ve visited this is probably the best maintained, and cleanest that I’ve seen. For any trip to Tucson the desert museum is a must see. Also right in the same area is the International Wildlife Museum, Saguaro National Park, and Old Tucson.
