Everyone loves things that are small and cute, and what’s smaller or cuter than a model village? Bekonscot Model Village is the oldest in the world and a great attraction for a sunny summer’s day – I spent many an afternoon there as a child, sunburnt and sticky with melted ice cream; but going back the other day (at the ripe old age of 21) I still totally loved it, and so did my lomo.
The brightly coloured miniature fairground is amazing cross-processed, model trains zoom all over the place, and it’s perfect if you’ve got a macro tunnelvision lens for your lomo, as shown in the lomo-tastic book “Forever England” by Liam Bailey (which you can check out here, http://www.liambailey.com/foreverengland/index.php)).
Best of all, though, is pretending you’re a giant, obviously, and stomping around, lording over all the little people. If you really like it, there’s a Europe-wide network of model villages to visit; one day I might just try and lomo each and every one. But if you’re only going to see one, it should be Bekonscot; after all, it has royal approval: our dear queen spent her eighth birthday there. Now you certainly can’t argue with that.
