2nd Beach Pool

Who doesn't love those sunny summer days? Or enjoy going to an outdoor heated pool? In Vancouver we have 2 favourites, 2nd Beach Pool in Stanley Park (pictured here) and Kitsilano Pool which is great for the more serious lane-swimmers. 2nd Beach Pool has 2 small slides and it's right on the edge of the ocean, the scenery is amazing. Bikes and roller-blades whiz by on the seawall, floatplanes in the sky, forest to the rear with raccoons, geese, swans, eagles and more.

On a quiet day a seagull or 2 may join you in the pool, but they are very timid here, you can’t get very close. The cafeteria actually has some healthy food options, smoothies, wraps and salads, along with the usual temptations, ice-cream & burgers. The changing room is extremely basic, no comforts here, but it’s still worth a visit due to the spectacular location.
From the pool, on the ocean you will see kayaks and sailboats, and little ferries. Further out on a clear day you can see the mountains of Vancouver Island. Just a short distance away we have 3rd beach, popular with skim boarders. English Bay is just to the south with Tennis Courts, Beach Volleyball, Kites, and all kinds of bikes. Logs washed up over the winters are neatly arranged along the beaches as handy perches.

The pool is open to the public in the summer months and in the winter a different resident takes over, seagulls. They soon fill up the pool perimeter with broken mussel and clam shells, it’s a funny sight when they are floating about on the pool and it’s closed to us, they seem to mock us. Check out the link for an aerial view of this amazing location.

The directions are: From English Bay/Downtown take Beach Avenue (going
west) and you will enter Stanley Park, stay on Stanley Park Drive for about
half a mile, 2nd Beach Pool is on the left at the intersection of North
Lagoon Drive.
