Washington DC can be a fantastic vacation getaway spot. Watch out because there are a lot of people that think the exact same thing. I found that when you get away from the mall and take a nice stroll through the city there are many nice things to point your camera at. The city is very clean (at least parts are) and there are a ton of clubs and things to do that don’t involve US history, if one is trying to get away from all that. Of course all the stuff that is part of the mall and US history is really nice too.
I liked the zoo best, but I’m a sucker for zoos. I know people have issues of the animals locked up in cages and what not, but they get fed and bathed everyday, hell lock me up in a zoo and come take pictures of me. The national zoo is one of the cleanest, best maintained zoos that I have ever been to. The animals appear to be happy and well taken care of. It is also one of the largest zoos in the US and they are expanding. You’ll find a lot of tourists here and lots of kids, but hey they need their pictures taken too. The metro will take you where you need to go and you might as well take its picture too.
