Vytautas – the Great War Museum Park

You can find Vytauto Didžiojo karo muziejus (English: Vytautas the Great War Museum) in the Kaunas center. It was opened in 1936 and named after the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Vytautas. Inside of the museum you can find many interesting things like historical weapons and a thing that I am proud of - Lituanica plane, on which Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas had crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1933.

The only thing why I don’t like this museum is that you can’t take your camera with you inside, so that’s why I suggest you to stay in the park, and to visit museum only if you want to. As the museum shares the same building with M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum, so usually there are a lot of people here in the park. By the way, there are some old cannons outside of the building too. If you are a skater so you should come to the park in the evening, because this is a park where all skaters from Kaunas usually meet. The park is huge, it’s near the Vytautas the Great University and Kaunas University of Technology so if you will come here between September and June you won’t find a free space to sit down and have a snack, there will be students everywhere. The last but not the least – Vytautas the Great War Museum building is depicted on the back side of 20 litas (Lithuanian money, worth about 6 euros).
