Vatican Museums

I’ve never been a huge fan of museums because frankly while traveling, I’d rather see the beautiful cityscape and enjoy mingling with the locals while sampling the country’s speciality dishes however the Vatican museums are definitely an exception.
A trip to Rome isn’t complete without a pit-stop to one of the oldest and richest galleries. Showcasing sculptures but top men Michelangelo and Raphael (amongst many, many more), the frescos, ceilings, artworks, paintings, mosaic tiled floors and tapestries never fail to amaze. As if that wasn’t enough, the grand finale before leaving the enormous buildings is the breathtaking Sistine Chapel. It’s definitely something everyone MUST see at least once in their life. It really has that wow factor.
Normally cameras are allowed anywhere on the premises except the Sistine Chapel but being a typical tourist, I couldn’t resist sneaking a couple of shots of the gorgeous hand-painted ceilings and walls… and you should too! Getting there is as simple as hopping on the metro line A to Ottaviano San Pietro stop and a 10 min walk to the museum entrance is found by walking alongside the Vatican walls. You won’t miss it especially when you see the long queue of people waiting to get in. Don’t be put off by the some 40-60 min wait because it’s all worth it (and you always get some sort of entertainment from street musicians and the like whilst waiting). Just make sure you get there early because the gates close at 15.00 sharp. Entrance fee is 13 euros/person.
