Vacation in Berlin

If you live in a little village like me where nothing happens at all vacation means travelling to a big city like Berlin where you can feel life pulsating! It's a really great city with lots of different faces and places, and the people I met were very friendly and open-minded.

If you live in a little village like me where nothing happens at all vacation means travelling to a big city like Berlin where you can feel life pulsating! It’s a really great city with lots of different faces and places, and the people I met were very friendly and open-minded.

To explore the city I preferred to walk and sometimes taking the underground.
My accommodation was near Potsdamer Platz with its modern and mostly great architecture. Great architecture is also the Gedächtniskirche (Breitscheidplatz at the Kurfürstendamm). It was partly destroyed through bomb attacks while the Second World War. Its ruins are still standing to remind the war. A new church was built near the ruins. Inside the church is a very contemplative spirit because of the blue light shining through the lots of little windows. Another impressing sightseeing is the Brandenburger Tor. It is situated at the Pariser Platz, was built from 1788 – 1791 to remember the Siebenjährigen Krieg (a war lasting seven years) and is the town’s landmark.

I was very interested in Berlins DDR-history, so I went to the DDR-Museum near the Museumsinsel. There is shown the everyday life in the DDR, you can try to drive a Trabant and listening to music of bands living in the past DDR. Also very interesting is the East Side Gallery where a part of the Wall is still standing. After the opening of the wall in 1990 artists of 21 countries designed it by commenting the political changes in 1989/90.

This is just a little spectrum of interesting things in Berlin! So pack your bags and find out yourself!
