Trains - “Die Bahn”
written by jogintas on April 27th, 2008 (1 vote)

What do we do when we have to get from point A to point B? We choose the vehicle… Options are endless, but we all know, that planes are fast, but expensive, and on the other hand – cars are cheap, but slow… What to do? Choose trains!!! There is a huge railway web all around Europe, and lots of companies offer different “good deals” for traveling at the very low cost. My favorite is the German Railway, or “Die Bahn” as it is called in German.

It’s the best option for traveling all around the Germany, as you can see lots of good things, which you do not see while driving the car – even more: you can chill out inside of the train and take lots of photos with motion with your lomocameras just because the side windows are huge and often tidy. Die Bahn offers endless ticket prices and variations of them – for example, you buy a ticket for up to 6 people (if I am not mistaken) and you can get wherever you want during the day: change trains, take a nap in a stopover place or even get out of the train and change your trip plans. When to travel? Choose weekends, because then you have the best offers. Where to buy the tickets? Well, everywhere – there are lots of automatic cabins, which are fast but speechless; then there are salesmen and what is more – you have the option to buy the ticket even in the train (I had to do it because I had no time when changing the trains).

The train stations are awesome – cool clocks, timetable stands, people in rush, colorful trains and so on… What film to choose? It depends on what are you going to shoot – if the landscape from your moving train, then choose ISO100. If you are going to do the interesting shootout in one of the train stations, choose ISO400, as they all are covered with housetops, and there you can not find much sunshine… I prefer the train itself – from the colorful seats, sleeping passengers to public WCs, which all have the mirror for your awesome OSCM shot (keep that in mind!). So, where are you planning to go? Ah, nice trip you have in your mind – take a look at the Die Bahn internet site for more information and you will explore the whole Germany in several days. Fast, cheap and very tour-like!
