Sony Centre

The Sony centre in Berlin is one of the main buildings of the architectural renovation of the Potsdamer Platz, in the centre of Berlin. You can find there many shops, private apartments and the German film museum. When you enter (its free) in the centre, you'll immediately be impressed by the big glass and metal dome above your head.

The Sony centre in Berlin is one of the main buildings of the architectural renovation of the Potsdamer Platz, in the centre of Berlin. You can find there many shops, private apartments and the German film museum. When you enter (its free) in the centre, you’ll immediately be impressed by the big glass and metal dome above your head.

This dome is slightly inclined on one side and you can really think about a spaceship that accidentally fell down on the buildings. It’s simply fascinating. Just sit down and take a coffee and take pictures of this impressive construction! :) This centre was designed by the German architect Helmut Jahn and opened in 2000. It gives a great style to the Potsdamer Platz, but it’s not the only modern building with futuristic style. Just look all around you and you’ll see a lot of fascinating structures, lines and edges. But visit also the German film museum inside the Sony Centre. The entrance is on the top and the first room of the museum is like a kind of dark place, very few lights and a lot of illuminated eyes (pictures taken from German expressionistic films and others from the 20-30’s.) are staring at you. Walk through the whole history of this fascinating period of German cinema (especially F.W. Murnau and F.Lang and expressionism in general), it’s just a great moment! :)
