Södermalm
written by azurblue on April 27th, 2008 (2 votes)

Södermalm (or Sôder) is a district of Stockholm, on an island, south of Gamla Stan (the old town). It remained a rural area for a long time. In the 19th century, Södermalm was known as a working class district, with poor wooden houses which burned too easily. The times have changed! Nowadays Södermalm is a trendy district, with a wide range of restaurants, cafés, bars, alternative fashion shops and design galleries, sometimes mixed in the same place. If you want to do shopping, go to SOFO, south of Folkungagatan.

If you prefer romantic walks, go to Fjallgatan: the views from the hill are marvelous and the tiny red wooden houses are so nice and peaceful.
