Sankt Martini Kirche

Do you know Wese-renaissance? No? Okay... You surely know Renaissance and Weser is a river in lower Saxony, Germany. Along River Weser were built up lots of houses, churches and castles during the era of renaissance. For example Saint Martins Church in Stadthagen. I like this church! It is very big if you compare it to the size of Stadthagen and you can see it from everywhere when you get closer to Stadthagen. It really dominates the skyline.

The church is in the centre of the historical old town. It was built next to the marketplace and a library. It was built up on the ground of another church in the 14th century. From time to time there are concerts in it. They have a new organ there. They made lots of concerts to get money to renovate it. So now Stadthagen is very proud of its new old organ. A very, very special and photogenic object in the church is the mausoleum, a grave built in the 17th century as a seven-corner of sandstone coming from Obernkirchener Sandsteinbrüche. There are figures made by Adrian de Vries of marble and bronze called “Die Auferstehung Christi” (“Rising of Jesus Christ”). Four Romans are sitting around and four lions carry the coffin. A giant Jesus Christ is standing on the top carrying a flag. There is a sleeping guard. There is an interactive spot for tourists. You get a headset and can listen to all information in different languages. You have to visit it – but take pictures only WITHOUT flash! ;-)
