Sandbanks Chain Link Ferry

The Bramble Bush Bay chain link ferry operates between Sandbanks and Shell Bay at the entrance of Poole Harbour on the south coast of England. It transports pedestrians and any type of vehicle imaginable from bicycles to double-decker buses. It operates all year round (except for every couple of years when it is serviced in the October/November timeframe) from 7 am until 11 pm, every 20 minutes. The ferry service is a popular as ever as it is the most convenient way to reach the beautiful sandy beaches of Studland, it also is the quickest way to reach Swanage without having to take a 25 mile detour around Poole Harbour. There are very strong tidal streams that rush through the straight between Sandbanks and Shell Bay and together with the high volume of sailing boats that dart in front and behind the ferry as it crosses, makes it a very exciting, albeit, short trip.
