Ravello has the most divine panoramic view of Italy! Ravello is situated near the Amalfi coast, in Italy, near Naples, on a splendid position, on a rocky spur astride the Dragon’s and Reginna’s Valleys. Ravello was an important town of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and around 1200. But when the people from Pisa attacked and sacked it, a slow decline began.
In the XIX, Ravello became a preferred destination of the Grand Tour, educational and pleasure travels of European intellectuals and artists. You can visit the cathedral, rest on a terrace with a drink or an ice cream, saunter in the narrow streets but don’t forget to visit the two jewels which are Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone. Built in the XII century, Villa Rufolo received Richard Wagner. He composed there a part of his Parsifal. The magnificent gardens and the view are fantastic!
The beauty of Villa Cimbrone consists in its gardens, decorated by statues, busts and marble groups, among them we have to remember the temple in Doric style with the marble statue of Cerere. It’s terrace – named “Terrace of Infinity”, offers the most divine panoramic view of Italy, along all the Amalfi Coast. The writer Andre Gide gave us a splendid description: “Ravello is nearer to the sky than it is to the shore”.
Not to forget is the annual musical event at the Villa Rufolo with concert of classical music.
