Do you want to discover a symbol of the Dolce Vita? Go to Portofino, on Tigullio’s gulf, 36 km from Genova, in Liguria, Italy.
Portofino is a small fishing village, with pastel colored houses reflecting in the harbor. Since XIX, it’s a famous destination for high class tourism: Guy de Maupassant used to moor his yacht, the Bel Ami, in the marina. It is now frequented by the Italian Jet Sett. The water front is a continuous ring of waterside restaurants, fashionable boutiques and cafe. Don’t forget your credit card! The best view on the village: you have the best view of the village from San Giorgio’s church. Walk 20 minutes west, and you’ll reach the lighthouse platform, from which you’ll get a vertiginous view on the deep Mediterranean Sea.
How to get there: By train: take the Genova-la Spezia line and stop in Rapallo.
Then, take the bus.
From Santa Margherita, you can even take the tourist sea service from April to September.
You can drive a car, but there is only a tiny parking place, quickly filled in summer and during the week-ends.
