Pigeons of Venice

Okay, okay, so many people call pigeons “rats with wings”. They’re everywhere, invading our planet by the hoards. They nip at anything edible, poop on your head if you’re not careful and basically make a mess. However annoying they are, we all have to admit that they’re one of the best lomographic animals around. If you want to mix the photogenic ability of these birds with a stunning backdrop, than there is no better place to go than to Europe’s grandest drawing room…the Piazza San Marco in Venice! There are literally hundreds of pigeons constantly fluttering about giving you numerous chances to snap them up with your lens.
Personally, my Supersampler adores these birds. It documents their every move, from pecking at food to the flap of their wings. They really do make perfect subjects for multiple lens cameras as well as the other host of Lomos of course. The LC-A and fisheye in particular takes stunning images of these birds in flight, only their silhouettes with wings spread against a blue sky is quite a sight. So when you’re in doubt of where to take your next holidays, Venice should be at the top of your list. Not only for the sheer beauty of this canal street city but also for the little feathered friends that are just waiting for you to take their photos against the stunning backdrop of the Basilica di San Marco. Little packets of corn kernels are sold by vendors (1euros/pack) right in the middle of the square just to make it that much easier to get up close and personal to the birds. Just don’t forget to wash your hands afterwards!
