Mount Batulao
written by zoe191 on April 27th, 2008 (2 votes)

The first time I went to Mount Batulao was to celebrate my birthday on a September weekend with some friends. The picturesque jagged ridge of Mount Batulao looks like it has snow-capped peaks but it is actually just covered with cogon grass and its white plume-like flowers. We set up our tents on the first campsite that we saw that has a tree.

The next morning we went up to the summit and saw the clouds rolling in over the hills below us. There is also a view of Taal Lake, the South China Sea, and nearby mountains such as Talamitam and Pico de Loro. Climbing can be done anytime of the year but because there is no shade, you must be prepared for the scorching heat. The trail is not difficult but the heat can dehydrate you, so you need to bring plenty of water. We were lucky to find someone on the trail selling ice candy. This is a local name for sticks of frozen fruit juice. The juice is stored in tubes of small plastic bags and frozen. I had four of them. To get to Mount Batulao from Manila, take the Nasugbu-bound bus and get off at the Evercrest Golf Club in Tagaytay City. The trek starts there.
