It’s an 800 m high mountain in the close vicinity of Nice. A beautiful place to see the blue Mediterranean Sea and the city of Nice on one side and Alps on the other. In spring, you can even see sometimes the snow on the mountains in front of the sea! Old ruins of a castle from middle-ages are on top of this mountain. The place is great, romantic and sometimes windy with a very large panorama from the Alps to the sea. You could find many places for picnic, to play football, to relax and dream. Many families are coming there on week-ends to enjoy the place. I like to go there to take photos. It’s a great inspiration, between the ruins and the landscape to shoot with any cam.

The people in the late middle ages lived in the valley, but it became too dangerous and it was too near to the coast. So they decided to climb on the mountain and build their village behind the castle which had an overall view of the valley and the whole area, to warn the village in case of attack! Now the village is still there, very nice little place too, and is called “Chateauneuf de Contes – Villevieille”. To find the place, coming from Nice, in the centre of the town, follow the direction of the A8 east Highway (east of the city) and after a while to the direction of “Contes”. After a moment choose the “Contes” and forget about the Highway. You’ll be on the road to the mountains and after 20 minutes you’ll arrive at Contes. At the entry of the city, turn left to “Chateauneuf – Villevieille” and climb straight to the top. After arriving at the village, follow “ruins” and at the pass, take the little road: always climb to be on the top, the ruins are there!! And don’t forget your cam(s)!!!
