Market in Cahors
written by jazzgohan on April 27th, 2008 (2 votes)

Cahors (20.000 habitants) is situated in the south west of France about 100km north of Toulouse on the Paris – Toulouse Axis. About 20 years ago the market of Cahors used to take place every morning, but as the farmers are getting older and can’t transmit their traditions. Nowadays, this market is just on Saturday morning from 6 am to 13 pm on the cathedral square.

This market contains all kinds of food from ducks, chickens, cheeses, meats, fishes, herbs, honeys, flowers and even a fresh Chinese rolls maker. Compared to other markets, people are taking time to talk to each other, it is even a place to discuss politics where the maire likes to show himself and shake hand for hours. The farmers are coming from all around Cahors, with long trucks or small wood tables with few authentic products sold in two hours. From 12 pm, the sellers are starting to shout in order to sell the maximum of products in the minimum time. It is time to get 2 kilos of tomatoes for 1 euro!!!
