Lyon City Walk

Lyon is a beautiful city in France. The first time I went there I was really charmed by the mood and the characteristics of the city and now, every time I go back there, I’ll see always a lot of new things.

The special thing in Lyon is that the city is divided in 3 different parts separated by the 2 rivers of the Saône and the Rhône. The west side of the Saône is the oldest part of the city, were the Romans built the first urban settlement on a hill. In the middle, between the 2 rivers, you have the “peninsula” where the city developed in the middle ages and it’s really the one I prefer, and the real center of the city. Then, on the east side of the Rhône, you have the “modern city” of the 19th-20th century, perhaps a little bit less interesting…

So, if you want to discover the city, the best is to begin with the central part, between Saône and Rhône. Go to the “Place Bellecour”, main place of the city, and just walk north through the city center. After a few time, you’ll arrive to the Opera House of Lyon (see other location) and then follow the way up through the narrow streets and impressive stairs climbing the Hill of “La croix rousse”, a very nice part of the city. And the more you climb up the stairs, the best will be the view over the city of course! And then, you can go down by the other side of this hill, to the river Saône and once you’re done, cross one of the bridges to visit the other part of the city. You’ll see that a beautiful church is on the top of the hill, it’s “Notre Dame de Fourvière”: if your legs and feet are still ok, go up again to visit this church and have another fantastic panorama over the whole area! :)) So, Lyon has, so many different hills and so many different point of views to admire, many different areas of all historical periods that you always have something new to discover!. Go to Lyon and enjoy!!:)
