Liège

My name is Kim and I’ve been living in Liège for a long time now. I don’t want to worry about how many people are living in Liège or how many square meters Liège is. Liège is a nice city in Belgium and is a part of the Wallonia region (there is also a Flemish region and a German one! wonderful for one of the 3 smallest countries of the whole Universe!). Despite of the fact that it is a small city in a small country, Liège is always moving very fast! We love evolution, art and culture. I have several places where I love to go.

First I like the Soundstation, it is an old train station transformed into a place of concerts, where alternative music predominates, but it is also a restaurant and a pub at the same time. What is wonderful is that you still can see trains passing!! I love shooting there because people and lights are very interesting www.soundstation.be. Then, right in the center of the town there is a kind of squared area called the Carré (Square) because it is formed by many very small streets united in a shape of a big square. On these small streets there have little, old and typical houses transformed into pubs. What is amazing, is that you can chose the atmosphere you want to be according to a pub! For instance, if you want to start your evening listening to rumba, you can go to the Cubar and if you are fed of that, you just go outside, walk 20 meters and enter another pub with more pop-rock or punk or RnB. Everything is very close and you don’t have to pay anything to enter any pub! The decorations are very different from one pub to another and people too!! It is very nice! www.lecarre.be.

Liège is known as “the burning city” because its inhabitants always find an opportunity to make party. Finally and on a more typical side, Liège is full of old litlle streets with old houses and gardens. We have a hill called “la montagne de Bueren” and on that hill there are more or less 377 stairs people can climb. It is very impressive to see that hill with all these stairs!! Since Belgium is known for its beer, the local beer from Liège is Jupiler but we also have a local alcohol that everybody should try in his life and it is called the “pêket”, we even have a kind of house dedicated to that alcohol (la maison du pêket). Liège is very difficult to describe, you really have to go there and see it by yourself, you’ll realize how pretty and charming is the city and at the same time you’ll have the opportunity to meet the inhabitants known for their welcoming behaviour: the more we are to party, the better!
