La Mallorquina

La Mallorquina is one of the oldest cafés and bakeries in Madrid. It was founded in 1894 and has only changed owners once ever since, when the founder´s family sold it during the Spanish Civil War. It is located at the very heart of Madrid: between la Calle Mayor and la Puerta del Sol and it’s been the meeting point of the Madrileños for more than a century.
When in Madrid you really should go there at least once for breakfast or the typical merienda (after waking up from a good siesta we Spaniards always have a café con leche and some viennoserie ;). There are tables upstairs but I defiantly prefer the bar downstairs. It’s usually very crowded but it’s the best way to participate of the unique atmosphere of the place and to enjoy the best napolitanas, ensaimadas and torteles in town! They also sell all kind of sweets and some savouries (I recommend the aguja de ternera) to take away. The place doesn’t have a website, but it’s impossible to miss: Puerta del Sol nº 8 and if you want to contact them, just call!
