House of Birth of Wilhelm Busch
written by mephisto19 on April 27th, 2008 (1 vote)

Do you know Max and Moritz? The two characters from a book, two boys working against every authority existing in their small world like teachers or an old widow. The whole text is written as a poem. Or “die fromme Helene”? Sure you know them. Maybe they are called differently in your country. I saw the names, but forgot them all!

The author and painter of these figures, Heinrich Christian Wilhelm Busch, was born in Wiedensahl on April 15th, 1832 as eldest of 7 brothers and sisters. Because their house (that today is a museum) was too small, Wilhelm Busch as they all called him, had to go to his aunt and uncle near Göttingen. He should study different handicraft techniques, but he didn’t want to do that. He was interested in arts, so he studied at three universities in Europe. He died on January 9th 1908 near Seesen, Harz.

Let me tell you a little more about Wiedensahl. This village is so small and directly behind a big forest, you can’t get close. Wilhelm was born there and created figure by figure. You can visit his house of birth and learn more about his life. There are some books to buy and next to the house is a café. If you are near Hanover, go there! It’s interactive and the museum guide will tell you everything!
