Grouse Mountain

A trip up to Grouse Mountain is a must for visitors, the scenery is amazing and there’s so much to do all year round. In winter it’s a snow-sports playground, with skiing, snowboarding, terrain parks, snowshoeing and ice-skating. You can rent the equipment here if you need to and there are lessons too. While you’re sliding around you’ll be enjoying views of the city below, and the other north shore mountains. Grouse is one of 3 local ski areas, but only Grouse has the Sky ride, a big red gondola which operates year round.
In the summer you can go hiking from the top of Grouse to Goat Mountain or Crown Mountain, and there’s always the Grouse Grind, ever popular with Vancouverites. They call it nature’s stair master, it’s a trail straight up the face of Grouse Mountain, 2.9 km ascending 853 m.
At the top there is a large Chalet with coffee shop, cafeteria, bar and a fancy restaurant. In winter there will be a lovely big log fire to welcome you. Watch the sunset from the deck. There is a small movie theatre which shows a couple of documentaries about British Columbia and the 2 resident bears. They are Grizzlies that where orphaned, and they live in an enclosure. But you may get to see Black Bears in the area too, not that you really want to!
