Want a feast of colours for your Velvia, Provia, and Astia (Fuji should give me a discount for this one)? Then take your films and cameras and head to the majestic town of Pampanga in the Philippines!

Celebrated every year during the cold breeze of December, this festival attracts even the most remote areas from the north and south. It is participated by 12 to 14 “barangays” (a community smaller than a town) from the City of San Fernando, Pampanga. The Giant Lantern Festival has been celebrated for almost half a century now. From the moment of its inception during the early days, the technology used at present is almost the same used during the time of their forefathers. Using masking tape, hair pins, aluminum barrels, and ingenious talent, these crafty individuals made a mark for themselves by creating the biggest lantern for the Disney Corporation. Shaped like the Mickey Mouse, you’ll go crazy taking shots all night!

What to shoot? The 14 “barangays” boasts their 20 feet giant lanterns that perform differently like dreamy kaleidoscopes synchronized with the latest music of this era. Just remember to deliver your bulb setting on the loose.
