Gardens of Cimiez

The gardens of Cimiez, near of the Monastery (see other location) is a beautiful place for relaxing in a green and quiet space in the city. The main part of this garden is an olive grove where you can rest under the shadow of a giant and very old olive-tree, and take a little sunbath and pictures too! The place is well known for the people of Nice, and on week-ends you'll see all families coming with their picnic and the children are playing football, frisbee, etc.... The second part of the garden is more a "rose grove" where you can admire the great flowers the monks are cultivating since the XVIth century and admire also the great view over the whole east-side of the city of Nice. The point of view from this hill over the city is just great, and that is why the Romans founded their first city on this hill (named "Cemenellum") in the 4th century.... If you're in Nice during the summer, don't miss the Nice Jazz Festival taking place in the Olive grove of Cimiez, with great musicians in a beautiful place!
