Gallocanta Lagoon
written by jelga on April 27th, 2008 (2 votes)

If you like birds and amazing empty landscapes, then you really have to go to Gallocanta, one of the most important marshlands in the world and meeting point of many bird species, both steppary and migrating. It is recommended to visit the lagoon at the end of October-beginning of November, high point of the migrating season.

One of the most spectacular sights are the cranes, which stop at the lagoon in large groups. The best way to contemplate them is from the southern observatory (don’t forget the binoculars!). In order to organise your visit according to your interests, I advice you to go first of all to the Tourist Information Office in Gallocanta and then to the Centro de Interpretación (you will find the addresses plus loads of details about the lagoon’s flora and fauna and the region’s history, plus useful information on where to stay and eat at the website http://www.gallocanta.org).
