Fuendetodos

Many of you will undoubtedly know Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, one of the greatest and more interesting Spanish painters. Many of you will undoubtedly know Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, one of the greatest and more interesting Spanish painters. Goya was born in a tiny village near the city of Saragosse (Zaragoza), called Fuendetodos. This region is great for a roadtrip combining nature, culture and, of course, gastronomy.

If you like Goya’s work, a visit to the Museum of the engraving is a must. You can contemplate the four most important print series by the Aragonese painter: “Caprichos” (Caprices), “Desastres” (Disastres), “Tauromaquia” (Bullfighthing) and “Disparates” (Absurdities). Goya’s birth-house is also worth a visit, if only to see from the inside an 18th century traditional aragonese house. Afterwards you can walk around the tiny and charming village and then visit one of the neverones, very peculiar stone constructions used to store the winter snow, which was converted into ice and then sold for medical and food use. As a matter of fact, ice and snow trading were one of the main economic drives of the region up to the 19th century.
