Fish-market of Marseille
written by azurblue on April 27th, 2008 (0 votes)

40% of the fishes eaten by the French are farm fishes. When you’ll go to Marseille, don’t miss the traditional fish market that stands everyday on the Old Port (Le Vieux Port), on Belgian platform (Quai des Belges). The old fish-market (La Criée) has become the National Theater of the town. So, every morning, the fish-market takes place. The fishermen sell their fish on their own. They wake up very early, take fish (or not) from their nets, and go back to the harbor. Fresh, fresh fish! “Il est frais, il est frais mon poisson!” shouts the fishmonger.

Little fishes for soup – for Bouillabaisse (the special fish-soup of Marseille), or bigger ones. Don’t come too late in the morning if you want the best pieces. How to go the the harbor of Marseille?
