The Promenade des Anglais (literally the Englishman's promenade) is one of the main places to see if you stay in Nice. It's the whole coastal pedestrian walk along the seafront in Nice where you can admire the beautiful landscape of what is called the Baie des Anges, the Angel's bay.

Why is it called the Englishman’s promenade you would ask? It’s very simple, let me explain it to you: at the beginning of the 20th century, when Nice was just a little fisher village, the first tourists to discover the region with those marvelous landscapes and the sweet weather and every season sunshine were some rich English families… They built up some fine holiday residences, and their favorite activity was to walk along the sea front, taking sun and fresh air from the sea… At the same time, all the fishers, working hard on the sea and the beach were stunned to see these people taking their time to walk on the sea front. What the hell are these people who don’t work and take pleasure by walking by the sea??? That’s why the seafront walk was called Promenade des Anglais.
Now, it’s a common activity of all the people who live there to go on the promenade, to spend good time, to do some jogging, roll-skate or bike, to stay there with kids and the whole family. I love to go there and take pictures!! :)) If you come to Nice by plane, the promenade will be the first thing you’ll see when entering the town by car or bus, and you’ll immediately fall in love with this town… as I did long years ago… ;)
