The first time I've been to this part of North Sea I was in my mother's womb, I guess. My grandfather had a camping-car there and we (the entire family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) went there (in parts) to sleep in this little smelly car. We did this every year, we came there (it was like ages driving there when you are young) and went to the beach.

The first time I’ve been to this part of North Sea I was in my mother’s womb, I guess. My grandfather had a camping-car there and we (the entire family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) went there (in parts) to sleep in this little smelly car. We did this every year, we came there (it was like ages driving there when you are young) and went to the beach.

The beach: lots of sand and endless sea. Maybe you know that there is more than flood: Ebbe and the result of it is Watt. You can walk on the ground of the sea collecting shells and small cancers, jellyfishes, sea-plants, little stones, wood, something people left on their ships… So we as family went there every year until the camping-car got too old. We had to look for another place to live and someone of our family found an apartment-house so that was our choice and we could go there with more than one part of the family.

I joined that till I was 12, after that I went alone for holiday. It was 2007 when I went there again – this time as a Lomographer. And what to say? It is amazing! Sky, clouds, Strandkörbe (like big rattan – seats you can sit in the whole day), shells, the Watt, people walking around, seagulls, the Barke (a big wooden sea-sign) and pure nature, sometimes in combinations with strange holiday-buildings for millions of tourists every year. It was good to go there again cause it reminded me of the time when I was a child. That was cool. Funny things happened, too: I met my aunt and uncle there. My boyfriend and I were walking around and I said “look over there. Behind this building we always lived, when we came here earlier”. Going there I made out my relatives. Later that day I got some food for us at a pool with restaurant and saw a waiter who is still working there (I guess for a long time).

If you want holiday, beach, trips to Helgoland, amazing sunsets, water, sea-gulls and so on- go to Duhnen / Döse to have a nice holiday. But don’t go there in main holiday-time. It is way too crowded!
